Scars, stretch marks, Pigmentation? Here is the solution!

Many patients do not want the pain and prolonged down time of laser resurfacing. The Dermaroller ® is the perfect solution for this. It is fast and there is no down time or prolonged discomfort.

Dermaroller Therapy: Treatment
The principle behind Dermaroller Therapy (also called Collagen Induction Therapy) is simple: to stimulate the body’s own production of collagen. This is accomplished by causing a minute injury to the dermis, which results in the start of the wound healing cascade. Before the treatment, a numbing cream is applied on the skin. The treatment takes approx 30-50 minutes.

The instrument itself is a sterile roller comprised of a series of fine needles which are used to puncture the skin and cause wounds, like tiny little nicks, and inflammation. The roller is moved across the treatment area and creates a great deal of these little nicks, which then become the focal point for the body to produce its own collagen.

The skin in the treated area turns a pinkish/red colour immediately after treatment which can last for an average of 12 to 24 hours. No post-op pain or side-effects have been reported, and you should be able to return to work the day after the treatment wearing light make-up.

Imagine now that on a typical roller, there are 192 needles. If when using the Dermaroller the skin is rolled six times (back and forth in three directions), this is over a thousand needle entries, all of which will act to stimulate new collagen fibres. It is not difficult to see that over time, this will act to massively increase the thickness, suppleness and general condition of the skin in these areas.

In addition to stimulating collagen growth, micro needling also create channels through which any substance applied to the skins surface (know as topical application) can be absorbed far more easily. What this means is any topical application used actually reaches the areas it is intended for.

Studies suggest that using a dermaroller in this way can boost the effectiveness of topical treatment by several hundred percent.

Dermaroller Therapy: Risks

While medical needling is suitable for almost all patients, it is not recommended for those with active infections, chronic skin disorders, blood clotting problems, poor healing, a clear-cut keloid diathesis, or skin malignancies.

As the body is producing its own natural collagen, there is no rejection.

Dermaroller Therapy: Results

The natural regeneration and repair that Dermaroller creates takes time as new collagen and elastin is formed, new skin cells are generated and the blood supply in the dermis is enhanced. It can take up to 6 weeks before visible signs of regeneration and repair are seen and the process will continue over the following months providing a gradual and long-lasting enhancement. Results last as long as the body's own collagen, 5-10 years more.
